Welcome to Colombia season

Hector has been working in agriculture for many years, but only 4 years ago did he begin growing coffee plants. He now has 2000 coffee trees across a modestly sized piece of land in the mountains of La Caldera outside of Pasto. He lives on the farm with his wife and 4 children, the oldest of whom has started helping him operate the farm. He focuses exclusively on washed coffees (our favorite), all Castillo varietal.

This is an incredible example of how tropical and dynamic Narino coffees can be, it is such vibrant and delicious coffee.

Context

This washed Castillo from Hector Jojoa in Pasto, Colombia presents a bright, fruit-forward profile. The washed processing method emphasizes clarity in the cup, allowing the varietal's inherent character to shine through the roaster's identified notes of passionfruit, melon candy, and sandies—a combination suggesting both juicy stone-fruit aromatics and subtle sweetness. Kuma Coffee's roasting decisions bring these qualities into focus for the final brew. Castillo, a Colombian-bred varietal, is engineered for resilience while maintaining cup quality, making producers like Jojoa well-equipped to highlight its potential in the cup.
