coffeesterTHE COFFEE ENCYCLOPEDIA

About

Coffeester is the coffee encyclopedia.

Coffee's modern world has outpaced its reference material. Third-wave roasters, single-origin microlots, processing experimentation, and an entire science of brewing have all arrived in the last two decades — but the places people go to learn about coffee haven't kept up. Encyclopedia entries are thin or out of date. Buying guides are sponsored. A roaster's shop only knows its own catalogue.

Coffeester is built to fix that. It is a sourced, structured reference — a knowledge tree that explains coffee from the plant to the cup — sitting on top of a curated shop of in-season beans, working roasters, and tested equipment. Every factual claim has a source. Every recommendation discloses its affiliate relationships.

The goal is simple: be the single best place to actually understand coffee, and a trustworthy place to act on that understanding.

What we cover

  • 139 sourced knowledge articles across seven verticals — the plant, geography, processing, roasting, brewing, sensory science, and the industry.
  • 42 in-season beans from seven marquee roasters, each pulled from the roaster's own live catalogue.
  • 48 pieces of equipment, reviewed — grinders, espresso machines, brewers, kettles, and scales.
  • 50 roaster profiles.
  • 5 flagship buying guides.

Our editorial policy

  • Empty over wrong. If we can't verify a fact — a farm name, an altitude, a varietal — we leave the field blank rather than guess.
  • Sources cited. Every knowledge article ends with the sources it was built on.
  • No fabricated quotes. We never invent reviewer quotes or scores; where we reference reviews, we link to the real thing.
  • Fresh, verifiable data. Beans are listed only while genuinely in stock, with a last-verified timestamp.
  • Reproducible pricing. We link to the seller's own page rather than quoting a cached number that goes stale.

How we make money

We earn affiliate commissions when you buy through links on this site. We're paid the same whether you click a "best overall" pick or a runner-up — there is no rank-for-pay. Some links are Amazon Associates (tag: coffeester-20); most go directly to roaster and manufacturer sites, where commissions are often higher and we'd rather send you — and our money — straight to the makers. Full details are in our Privacy Policy.

Who runs this

Coffeester is run by a coffee enthusiast and a small team — not a venture-backed media company. We build it because the reference we wanted didn't exist.

If you spot an error, have a question, or want to recommend a roaster we should cover, please get in touch. Corrections are taken seriously and acted on quickly.
