Kenya, Ichuga AA, Washed
Roasted by MOK Coffee
Fruity Kenyan washed coffee from Ichuga Station at 1700 masl.

From the roaster
Ichuga Station delivers high quality coffees year after year and their AA is exemplary of the fruity cup profiles that the world has come to associate with Kenyan coffee. Located in Nyeri, mountainous Central Kenya, where coffee plants thrive on the red, volcanic fertile soil. Ichuga station lies at 1700 masl and cherries are delivered by farmers who work exclusively with the Kiama Farmer Cooperative Society that runs it. Farmers selectively pick ripe cherries and deliver them to the station where they’re carefully sorted before further processing. The coffee is first depulped, fermented and washed with clean water to remove any remaining mucilage. Parchment is then spread out on raised beds and covered during the hottest time of the day and overnight to prevent drying damage. Drying takes approximately two weeks, depending on the weather circumstances. We have worked with Ichuga for numerous years now and this year it marks the start of our 2026 Kenya coffee line-up.
This coffee was sourced through our importing partner Sucafina.

Context
This washed Kenya AA from Ichuga Station in Nyeri, Central Kenya represents a classic East African profile. The AA grade signals larger bean size, typically associated with higher-altitude cultivation and more developed flavor complexity. Washed processing emphasizes clarity and brightness, allowing the varietal character to shine through—MOK Coffee identifies this lot's fruity expression as its defining note. For those exploring how such characteristics manifest across the sensory spectrum, the flavor wheel offers a useful reference. Kenya's Nyeri region, situated in the country's central highlands, has long been recognized for producing coffees with distinctive fruit-forward profiles. This lot presents an accessible entry point into the category while maintaining the sophistication expected of quality East African washed coffees.
