What started in 2009 as a simple signature espresso blend between a burgeoning specialty coffee roaster and an independent cafe has now evolved into the first and longest-standing wholesale partnership. Today, this collaboration has evolved into a true sister company, working under one parent company to source, roast, and brew coffees with a focus on quality and relationships.

Dark Horse - 20 Grand is a co-created blend from Detour Coffee Roasters and Dark Horse Espresso, combining coffees from Costa Rica and Brazil. The roaster has crafted this lot to emphasize deeper, heavier sweetness and body—qualities that emerge through roasting choices and origin pairing. As noted on the flavor wheel, the roaster identifies dark chocolate and molasses as primary characteristics, with toasted nuts adding textural complexity. This profile suggests a full-bodied espresso blend designed for sweetness-forward shots or milk-forward drinks. The Costa Rican and Brazilian components likely contribute different structural elements: one bringing brightness or acidity, the other adding body and chocolate notes.
