Gedion Venero - Peru

Gedion Venero is a producer from the Inkawasi Valley in Cusco, a producing region of Peru where we plan to center more of our sourcing in the future and look forward to visiting later this year. This season, we purchased both a larger blender lot from Gedion as well as this smaller separated lot. Gedion’s farm, Ccoripaccha, sits at 2,260 masl and is cultivated primarily with SL-9, an Ethiopian Legacy variety, locally known as “Inca Gesha,” whose full genetic picture is still emerging. In the cup, we get lightly process-driven, lightly floral flavors of blood orange and sweet cherry with rose aromatics.

This washed SL-9 from producer Gedion Venero showcases the distinctive character of Peru's Inkawasi Valley, where elevation and terroir shape the cup's bright acidity. Tandem Coffee Roasters highlights floral and stone fruit notes—blood orange, sweet cherry, and rose—typical expressions in well-processed Peruvian coffees. The washed processing method emphasizes the varietal's clean, nuanced flavors, allowing the origin's natural characteristics to shine through. SL-9, a disease-resistant hybrid, performs well at the lot's 2260 masl elevation, where cooler temperatures extend ripening and concentrate sugars.
