From the roaster

It’s no exaggeration to say that the Abel Raymundo Arotaype Huayllas is among the highest elevation coffee producers in the world. Located at nearly 2500 masl, his farm, El Pedregal, is located in the west of Cusco near the border with the neighboring Ayacucho department. This past year we’ve tasted a number of outstanding geshas from this region, so it was no surprise to see this coffee given due acclaim at the 2022 Peru Cup of Excellence, where it was awarded 11th place overall.

Passenger Coffee

Context

This 2024 lot showcases Geisha, one of specialty coffee's most celebrated varietals, grown by producer Abel Raymundo Arotaype in Cusco's high-altitude terroir at 2500 meters above sea level. The washed processing method employed here emphasizes clarity and brightness—a deliberate choice that allows Geisha's distinctive character to shine through. Passenger Coffee has selected this microlot to highlight the varietal's potential for nuanced, complex flavor expression. Geisha coffees are prized for their delicate, tea-like qualities and floral aromatics, and the clean processing underscores these refined characteristics. At this elevation and with careful handling from producer through roaster, the cup should reflect both the varietal's inherent elegance and the specific conditions of Peru's Cusco region.
