We’re excited to feature this smooth, washed coffee from Peru. In the cup, it’s balanced and naturally sweet, with a comforting character that makes it perfect for your daily cup.
This direct trade community blend comes from smallholder producers in Las Naranjas, near Jaén in the Cajamarca region. It comes from a farm we had the pleasure of visiting ourselves. Farms here are typically just a few acres, organically managed and intercropped with shade trees, bananas, corn, and beans, reflecting a deep cultural connection to the land.
Cherries are carefully harvested, floated to remove defects, then depulped, fermented, washed, and dried at each farm’s micro-mill. With the support of Origin Coffee Lab, producers receive guidance in cultivation, processing, logistics, traceability, and quality control, helping secure fair prices and reinvestment back into their farms and families.

Context
Peru La Fortaleza represents a multi-varietal washed coffee from Cajamarca's Las Naranjas region, sourced from various smallholder farmers. Grown at 1510–1702 meters above sea level, this blend combines Typica, Bourbon, and Catuai—traditional Peruvian varietals known for balanced, approachable profiles. The washed processing method emphasizes clean acidity and clarity, allowing the coffee's inherent characteristics to shine through.
Discovery Coffee's tasting notes of apple, cinnamon, pecan, and maple syrup suggest a coffee with both bright fruit-forward elements and subtle spice complexity. These flavor impressions align with what washed Peruvian coffees typically offer—crisp sweetness paired with gentle aromatics. This lot's appeal lies in its accessibility and the cooperative effort of multiple small producers contributing to a cohesive final cup.
