Patio Bonito is a hard working, family run farm located in Municipio de Caldono, Cauca. The farm consists of 5 hectares, with 52 different products and 25,000 coffee trees. The only passionate approach for quality and attention to detail at Patio Bonito is comparable only to that of an eagle scout packing his bag for a long hike. The main tree used as shade trees here are guava, which is playing a noticeable role in the terroir!
We learned about Patio Bonito’s strategic principals on our visit when they fed us an unbelievable home cooked meal, followed by a power point presentation.
The operations at Patio Bonito are grounded in 3 core values: food security, soil conservation and management, and Coffee Cultivation. Their mission is “To provide alternatives and training to farmers and students on the management, conservation, and exploration of natural resources and the environment.” Their philosophy for what they do: “The best legacy we can leave to our children is: love, knowledge, and a planet in which to live.”

Context
Case Study Coffee has sourced this natural-processed lot from Carlos and Paola Trujillo in Municipio de Caldono, Cauca—a region known for producing coffees with distinctive fruit-forward character. The roaster identifies Concord grape and marionberry wine notes, flavors characteristic of natural processing, where the fruit remains intact during drying and imparts deeper, wine-like qualities to the final cup.
This coffee showcases Castillo Tambo, a varietal developed for Colombian growing conditions. The combination of the varietal's inherent profile with natural fermentation creates the wine-adjacent aromatics highlighted here. For those exploring Colombian origins and fruit-driven, naturally processed coffees, this lot from the Cauca region offers a concentrated expression of what the process and terroir can deliver.
