From the roaster

We’re excited to share this lot from the remote village of Lauca, in Masma, Junin. This tiny community is made up of only 3 families. Coffee production is new to the area and this lot was grown by Samuel Muñoz and Raúl Ames. Each of them have a farm of around 1 hectare.

Once the coffee is harvested the cherries are pulped and the green is put into open tanks to ferment for 36 hours before being removed and washed. In Jauja the climate is warm and humid meaning the drying time is a little longer than other parts of Peru. This is not the only challenge Samuel and Raúl face producing in Lauca.

Transporting the coffee can be tricky. The infrastructure is minimal to say least. One solution the guys came up with is moving coffee by zipline...

Caravan Coffee Roasters

Context

Lauca is a washed coffee from Peru's Masma region in Junin, produced by Samuel Muñoz and Raúl Ames. Caravan Coffee Roasters brings this lot to market, highlighting the clarity that washed processing typically imparts to coffees from this origin. Peru's high-altitude growing regions are known for producing coffees with balanced acidity and complexity, characteristics well-suited to the clean, structured profile that wet processing develops. This coffee represents the collaborative work of two established producers working within one of Junin's established coffee-growing communities.
