Guji, in the Oromia region south of Sidama, was for decades blended anonymously into 'Sidamo' exports, but since Ethiopia liberalised direct specialty trade around 2017 it has emerged as one of the country's most celebrated origins in its own right. Farmers in woredas such as Hambela, Shakiso, and Uraga grow heirloom landraces — alongside disease-resistant JARC selections like 74110 and 74112 — at elevations reaching 2,300 metres. Guji's naturals are famous for clean, almost candied stone fruit, florals, and tropical intensity, while washed lots show peach, bergamot, and a syrupy sweetness. Its rise illustrates how traceability reform reshaped Ethiopian specialty coffee in under a decade.
