Founded in 2014 by renowned artist and food entrepreneur Keba Konte, Red Bay Coffee Roasters is based in Oakland, California, and positions itself at the forefront of what it describes as the fourth wave of coffee—a movement emphasizing not only high-quality, sustainable sourcing but also diversity, inclusion, social and economic restoration, entrepreneurship, and environmental sustainability. The roaster actively works to bring historically underrepresented groups—including people of color, formerly incarcerated individuals, women, and people with disabilities—into the specialty coffee industry through hiring and community engagement. Red Bay's public roastery in Oakland functions as a community hub, hosting events such as food pop-ups, panel discussions, concert residencies, and cultural festivals. In 2019, the company completed a Series A funding round led by prominent investors and celebrated its fifth anniversary. Red Bay also supplies wholesale accounts, including serving as the primary coffee supplier for Facebook's Menlo Park headquarters.
